Advanced Instruments

A 3-week course covering the use of transits, optical levels, tapes and chains for lay out and grade control for building and heavy highway construction.

Subject matter in this course includes:

  The use of trigonometry tables and mathematics

  Blueprint interpretation

  Use of total stations for turning angles

  Transfer of grades

  Making measurements (including triangulation of inaccessible distances)

  Setting and marking stakes for site control
